I am finally home from a wonderful long weekend. I went on a trip I have always wanted to go on. This was a trip in search of the Blues. Out of all my travels in my life, I have never taken the time to take this trip until this past weekend. I guess it was because it wasn’t the time for me to go on this trip until then. I am kind of at my own crossroads in life and I felt that this was a trip that was befitting and needed. Not only did I do something I had always wanted to do, I had the opportunity to
experience this trip with my mother and with members of my team who are truly committed to me, my vision and SPR. This trip has truly caused me to appreciate them and see them in a light I should have seen them in the beginning. Before
I ever left, a few of my childhood friends who are also part of the
team; friends I stood up for, unselfishly sacrificed for and bent over backwards
for , left me standing at the crossroads with my hat in my
hand. I have always been able to see the
potential in people and it is so frustrating to me when the people you
love can’t see their own potential for themselves. The trip did begin with a few other hiccups for instance, Beth Anne being late and us leaving her to ride with the second team. LOL! Shelly
& Scottie, who were able to leave at 3:00 had to wait for Jake who
got off work at 5:00 and couldn’t leave until after 6:00. Myself, my mother and Marty journeyed on to the Flats in Greenwood, MS. When we arrived at Tallahatchie Flats, it was everything I every imagined and more. It was in the middle of the Mississippi Delta surrounded by cotton fields and the Tallahatchie River running behind the Flats. As
soon as I walked inside the “Tush Hog” shanty after a walk through, I
could actually feel this shanty was haunted and I would be in for an
eventful two nights. As we settled in and hung out, we called to check on team two who was to be arriving later that evening. I
found out surprisingly, they had only made it 30 miles from Montgomery
and they had to turn around to take Jake back because his fiance had injured her toe. I was really disappointed because the girls waited on Jake and could have left at 3:00 instead of 6:00 when Jake could leave. However, things happen. The second team arrived after 1:00 a.m.
My first night at “Tush Hog” I woke up constantly and could feel the presence of a man in the shanty. We were filming but didn’t pick up any activity. I can tell you that I have been on hundreds of investigations and the “Tush Hog” shanty was one of the creepiest. I recommend this shanty to all paranormal enthusiasts. The following Saturday was a wonderful day. We all went on a tour and I was able to visit all three of Robert
Johnson’s grave sites, John Hurt’s grave, B.B. King’s birthplace and an
unbelievable amount of civil war and civil rights history which we all
enjoyed. Late that afternoon we traveled to Clarksdale, MS. I visited the legendary original crossroad where Robert Johnson sold his soul. We
visited the “Riverside Inn” a legendary blues hotel and former hospital
where Bessie Smith died (as well as many others I can imagine). We had the pleasure with being able to hang out with Mr. Rat, the owner who took us on a personal tour. I recommend the Riverside Inn to everyone and I plan for my team and myself to return to this site to stay overnight.
When you stepped through Mr. Rat’s doors you truly step back in history. That
night we returned to Tallahatchie Flats and the entire team, with the
exception of Shelly, stayed with me in my haunted shanty. By the end of the night, I think everyone agreed there was definitely a creepy and a paranormal atmosphere in “Tush Hog” shanty. Sunday
morning, we traveled to the true grave site of Robert Johnson once more
to bid him a farewell and an offering and then we headed to Memphis, TN. Upon arriving in Memphis, we visited Graceland and decided to find another haunted hotel or bed and breakfast. I contacted James in Montgomery to find us the best place within a 100 mile radius of Memphis. He found a Bed and Breakfast in Bolivar, TN, THE MAGNOLIA MANOR. On this part of the journey it was myself, my mother, Marty and Beth Anne. We arrived at the manor that was built in 1843. Please check our website for the Magnolia Manor soon. We stayed in another absolutely haunted place. We stayed in the slave quarters, we had several instances with the motion detector and
picked up some anonymous sounds on the recorder. When morning arrived, we went to the main manor to have breakfast and visit the owner, Elaine Cox. She was a wonderful southern hostess who gave us a tour, and told us ghost stories relating to the Manor. We
were glad to hear that we were able to pick up on some things that
other psychics and paranormal teams had picked up on in the past. We
traveled
home towards Tupelo, MS and visited the historic “Lyric Theater” and
some of the local area and headed home to Montgomery after
a tiring but wonderful trip. WOW….in four days I have been to Greenwood, Clarksdale, Memphis, Bolivar, and Tupelo. I sometimes feel like the hardest working unknown man in the paranormal community. I truly love every minute of what I do and my heart tells me it is my calling.
I want to thank Marty for organizing the trip, for driving and being a wonderful dedicated friend. You have turned out to be the spokes and wheels of SPR. Shelly’s
dedication, Beth Anne’s eagerness and dedication, Scottie for always
being there and willing drive and be photographic historian is very much
appreciated.
