Awesome & Productive New Orleans Weekend
I had a great week last week. We were very busy as always which is a good thing. We had a great time last Tuesday at our friend Erin's mother's St. Patrick's Day party where we were invited to come and speak. The food was good and I enjoyed meeting everyone who was there. I appreciate the opportunity to speak and answer questions about our field of research and the spiritual world. I regretfully had to miss the Through The Veil Radio Show but as always I know Susan and Babs did a great job.
Our Thursday night show, however, was also a little different. Burnett, Hump and Babs hosted the show while Jake and I called in on the road to New Orleans. They did a great job and I appreciate Babs helping out with the show.
While we were in New Orleans, we had a wonderful opportunity to investigate the Rathbone Inn. New Orleans is my favorite city in the world and we have been blessed to have the opportunities to investigate a lot of places down there. I have found a new favorite in the Rathbone Inn. I really enjoyed my stay and the investigation there. Bridgett, who runs it, does an awesome job and I liked it so much we will be trying to put together an event for everyone in October down there.
Be looking on www.southernparanormalresearchers.org for our report on the investigation soon.
The team that went down was Marty, Jake, James, Shelly and Deborah. I was honored to have our friend Kirk join us on the investigation Friday night. He is a very talented psychic and definitely a worker in the light.
As for the rest of the weekend, I have always said that we need a reality show because our life is so crazy sometimes. New Orleans has always amplified that craziness for us and this weekend was no exception.
The first thing that happened occurred Friday when we were walking to the Clover Grill in the French Quarter to eat lunch. Jake and myself were leading the way down Bourbon Street and Marty, my mother, aunt and uncle were following behind us. All of a sudden we heard stumbling, shuffling and shocked grunting. I turned around to see Marty in mid fall. She had succumbed to the uneven streets of the French Quarter and had gotten her ankle rolled up underneath her as she walked. She crashed down to her knees, feel the rest of the way and managed to roll down into the only puddle within six miles. Puddles in the French Quarter are always suspicious and this one happened to be of a sickly green quality. When she came back up she had dirty water and stains all over her and her knees were skinned and bleeding. All Jake and I could manage was "Wow". To tell you how bad the spill looked, a few passers-by actually stopped to make sure she was alright. That never happens in the French Quarter. I felt very sorry for her because she was in so much pain for the rest of the weekend.
Saturday night, we all went on Lord Chaz's tour as we are always want to do. The tour was awesome as always. ( Check out http://www.lordchaz.com for details!) I have been attending his tours since I was a kid and he is the best! While we where on the tour, we witnessed Chaz step in an ankle deep hole and almost fall down into what would surely have been a broken ankles. Thankfully, he quickly recovered and kept right on walking. Of all the things you can say about Chaz, he is not a man that is fazed easily. There must have been something in the water that weekend because everyone in our group had several near misses with meeting the concrete. Oddly enough, we all stayed pretty sober.
While we were on the tour, we met some young ladies from Missouri who drunkenly tried to teach us the proper way to say Alabama which would they would interpret as "Ala-BAMA!!!" Amazingly enough, I also think one of the girls was psychic because she walked right up to James and called him a prick. Ever since I have known him, most people have reached the same conclusion. The girls were a lot of fun and we enjoyed hanging out with them.
After the tour, we met up with Lord Chaz and his crew at Aunt Tiki's. While we were in this dark New Orleans Goth bar in the private section, this guy who was acquainted with Chaz came and sat down next to one of the girls from Missouri and James. The guy put his arm around both the girl and James. When this happened, James' looked over at me with grin. I knew what this meant, so I told James to be nice. I watched the guy wave his cigarette around constantly and before I knew it, James very discreetly tapped the cigarette out of his hand and onto his clothes. A few seconds later, we found out how flammable goth clothes can be. His vest caught fire before he was able to put himself out and he had to quickly jump out and pat himself down. He was very pleasant to us the rest of the night. :)
At about midnight we said our goodbyes to Chaz and his crew, and started to walk back to the Rathbone Inn. Marty and Shelly weren't with us as they volunteered to go back to the Inn to investigate more after the tour. We were walking down Gov. Nicholls Street and it was quite dark and unusually empty at that time of night. We started to feel a presence trailing behind us. As we looked back, we could never catch anyone there although we would periodically hear footsteps behind us. I thought that it could have been my old friend Jack following us back.
On our final day in New Orleans, we went and paid our respects as always to Marie Laveau and we walked around the Quarter for the final time. Afterwards, we headed to a place I have always wanted to go but have never found the time. We went to Gram Parson's grave. I am such a big fan that I now know how it felt when my mother went to Graceland and when Hump met Ryan Buell.
All in all I had a great weekend. I found out that I will be back in New Orleans in a couple of weeks so I am excited. My team did a great job and I am looking forward to some opportunities in the future.
Also, I want to thank the rest of my team that worked the Selma pilgrimage this past weekend that was led by Beth Anne. She did a good job and I appreciate her hard work.
I have a busy week ahead with the Through the Veil Radio Show on Tuesday night and the SPR show on Thursday night in which we will be talking about New Orleans. We might have some phone calls from some of the people we met and Friday through Sunday we will be in Birmingham at Imagicon. I am really excited about the opportunity and I am looking forward to the event. If you are at the event come by our table and I hope to see all of you there.
Special thinks to Marty and Shelly for all your hard work and dedication, I appreciate you both so much. I am so blessed to have Marty as my assistant and Shelly as my lead investigator.
To everyone else, thanks for your support and friendship.
With love and respect,
Shawn
