Great Benefit Event and Busy Month
I had a week of ups and downs. As always, we had a very busy week. We had a team meeting Monday night to discuss the Buena Vista Event and also the Circle of Life Expo that is coming up. We had our regular Through “The Veil” Radio Show Tuesday night with Susan and Babs. We had our Thursday night show with Chad, the American Ghost Hunter. We had a lot of responses about Chad being a guest on our show. We are going to actually discuss some of the feedback in the upcoming Thursday night show. Especially one e-mail that I received. Something occurred that I have many mixed emotions about. I have been invited to speak at an upcoming event in July, I sincerely appreciate the opportunity because it is so close to my hometown, however, at the same time, I feel somewhat betrayed to a degree and I definitely felt that my team was not appreciated as much as they should be. The locations where the event will take place are places that my team originally investigated where I took a trusted friend of mine with us as a guest on these events. I always try to keep my ego intact and I admit it is hard not to have an ego in this profession. I can honestly say, especially now since this incident occurred, I took a long hard look at myself. Everything I do in this field comes from the goodness of my heart. I truly want to help as many people as possible, I want to move this field of research in a positive direction, make a difference in the spiritual lives of as many people as possible and to assist as many historical societies and needy causes as possible. I can say without any doubt that I truly believe that what I am doing is my calling in life. The dark side will try to knock me off my path at any means possible. After a debate with myself and a long discussion with my friends, I decided to continue to be a part of this event because I had previously committed myself and I owe it to my team to represent them and let as many people as possible know that all their hard work in Selma is appreciated by me and will not go untold. My team and I opened the door for all the opportunities that are unfolding in Selma and without our efforts the opportunity for this event would not be available. Selma’s historical society does a wonderful job, they have fine people in their organization and I hope this event can help them immensely. My commitment is to the historical society and I would never pass up an opportunity to meet new people and to share the history I know about Selma. I have no hard feelings about this event and I look forward to being a part of this event. Throughout the week I was a little bummed, not about this event but my feelings of not being treated fairly and respected by a friend.
I was really looking forward to this weekend. This past Friday night Jake, Hump, Burnett and I decided to spend the night at the historic Buena Vista Plantation. We wanted to recapture the way it felt when we were kids. It is so easy as you grow in this field of research to really lose track as to what it was like when you first began. With me, Burnett and Hump, we began investigating at a very young age. We were dropped off at the edge of the road with our sleeping bags, pillows, notebook paper, flashlights and disposable cameras. This was a lot different than most investigations. As I was walking down the dirt road, we all giggled and joked as if we were young boys again. It really meant a lot to me to share this experience with my friends. We never cut the lights on and I can honestly say I did seriously creep myself out. A lot of the reported phenomenon in the Plantation, I actually experienced. We will discuss these events and more later in the book. I am really grateful for the experience and I really feel like I captured a little bit of the magic as it was as children when we first began.

Saturday night we hosted an all night event benefiting the Autauga County Historical Society at Buena Vista Plantation. We had a great turn out and I really appreciate everyone who attended the event. My team did a great job and, as usual, I am really proud of them. As I said above, I was a little bummed at the first of the weekend. God always has a way to remind you that you are on the right path. This Saturday night was one of those reminders. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy the event, but we had several people who listened to our radio show attended the event. During this event Saturday night, I was absolutely amazed and felt so happy because some of the guests felt they actually knew us as friends just from listening to the radio show. It supported my idea that we don’t have fans, we have friends. No matter how far I grow in this field, whether to the moon or in the pits of hell, our fans will be friends and part of the SPR family and will share our vision. For example, a man and his sister from Birmingham walked up and asked about Jake’s upcoming marriage and laughed about the fact Jake actually proclaimed himself on the radio as “A MAN”. Each person who roamed through the plantation talked about our show and followed the everyday life of SPR. After this event, I know in my heart as long as I stay true to myself and my roots, surround myself with people who believe in my vision, and my heart is in the right place, that our path might not always be easy but it will be righteous.
One of the things that had me bummed out was for some reason, maybe it is my ego, my trusted friend contacted another close friend of mine, whom I respect immensely in this field, and stated the reason why my photo and our team logo was not on the “flyer” and pretty much the reason we were not mentioned in the upcoming event was because we did not have a TV show or a book on in other words “we are just small time.” I am happy being small time but the way things are said behind your back, no matter what you say or do, respect is respect and I felt totally disrespected.

There is a chance that we may have a really cool investigation tonight and I will definitely write about it next week if it materializes. Thanks again and I hope everyone has a blessed week.
With Love and Respect,
SHAWN
