Great Investigation & Personal Challenges

I am a little late on this week Blog, but I guess better late than never.

This past week was just as busy as always but that is a good thing. We have been very blessed being able to help two families dealing with some pretty unpleasant activity. We also had our monthly meeting in which we laid down the game for 2009 and worked on some plans for some upcoming events. We are going to be part of “In the Shadows” event, March 7th  in Dothan,  Alabama and Through the Veil an event in June in Atlanta Georgia. We are very excited about both events and working hard to help make them a success for Shae and Babs.

Our Thursday Night Radio was fun, as always, we covered some paranormal in news, but our main part of the show was Jake interviewing me, he did a good job and asked me some tuff questions.

Friday night we had a wonderful investigation at the Historic Sturdivant Hall in Selma. The home was featured in the famous 13 Alabama Ghost book. I had wonderful time and you know some time if you stay as busy as we do it is easy some times to get complacent on just plain ole’ Ghost Hunts, but investigating Sturdivant Hall reminded me why I continue to do basic investigation and not just focus on the darker cases we work. It is such a beautiful home full of antiques and one thing that drew my attention was this large antique chest on the second floor that had a Masonic Symbol carved in and around it was a Horse Shoe symbol its was unbelievable. We had some personal experiences there and I hope we captured some evidence to support it. We owe Robert, Charles, Cindy and every one with the historical society so much for the opportunities they have given us in the beautiful City of Selma. I am looking forward to more in the future.

I also made a commitment to Jake this week to focus on the book we are writing. We were able to get a lot done Saturday night and Sunday. We have every thing laid out and a game plan, we hope to have it completed sometime this year.

You know I had a real reality check this weekend on a personal level.  My godson had a birthday party Sunday night.   I was there when he was born, I was always there for him growing up,  I carried him to T-Ball practice, I carried him to Football games, I took up time with him and I treated him like my own son. Since this summer I have not seen my godson or his mother very much because of a divorce and due to me being closer than a brother to my godson’s father. Every thing I did for that family and my godson, I did out of love and without wanting any recognition.  When I found out about his birthday party and that neither myself nor my boys, who love my godson so much, were invited I was greatly disappointment.   The disappointment became even greater when I found out that Mike’s children were invited.  This showed me just how selfish, cold and ungrateful people can be. They hide their true selves behind a mask called Christianity. What a sad thing.  Although I know everyone will be judged accordingly, it still hurts.

So, I move forward to the paranormal question of the week and this is a very basic question, but one I get asked a lot.

What are some of the required, basic equipment that I ask my members of SPR to have?

They Are:

35mm or Digital Camera – For a beginner, having a camera is probably the easiest and least expensive way to begin. Pictures, whether digital or recorded on film can capture paranormal activity, activity that is often invisible to the naked eye. This is especially true in the case of documenting the presence of orbs and ectoplasm.

Notebook & Pen or Pencil – Simple as this may be, it is always a good idea to have something to record any notes, findings or experiences you may have during an investigation.

Flashlight – Many times an investigation will take you to a dark or foreboding location such as a cemetery, old warehouse, abandoned building or other place that is dark or without electricity. In these instances you will need to have a portable light source.

Extra Batteries – Depending on the paranormal activity of a location, batteries oftentimes will mysteriously and unexpectedly lose their charge leaving you in the dark. Regardless of the type of equipment you use, make sure you bring extra batteries along to replenish depleted ones.

Chalk - can be used to draw circles around any objects that you are monitoring for movement. For instance, if you are investigating a possessed raggedy Ann doll, draw a circle around her to see if she moved while you weren't looking... Also use it to mark your way back if you're in a large building with no lights.

Compass - A primitive way to detect fluctuations in EMF, as well as a very handy tool to keep you from getting caught in a "Blair Witch Project" situation

Measuring tape -checking distances and witness accounts

Temperature - This equipment is also important in recording cold spots and other temperature anomalies

Well guys I will be back next week with a new blog. I have a busy week ahead planned so I am excited and ready to go. So special thanks to every one who takes the time to read my weekly blog and all the friendship and support from all of you.

Thanks

Shawn
